What is Boson in 'Higgs boson' ?

In the whole world, physicists are celebrating the GREAT discovery of 'Higgs Boson' - God particle. It will guide us to convert our cosmos theoretical knowledge to practical base. But what is this Higgs Boson ?

Higgs boson is one of the six elementary bosons that were discovered by an Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose. These are :
  • The four gauge bosons (γ · g · W± · Z)
  • The Higgs boson (H0)
  • The graviton (G).
All these bosons are particles which obey Bose–Einstein statistics.

Now Higgs Boson importance ... As the Universe cooled and the temperature fell below a critical value, an invisible force field called the ‘Higgs field*’ was formed together with the associated ‘Higgs boson’. The field prevails throughout the cosmos: any particles that interact with it are given a mass via the Higgs boson. The more they interact, the heavier they become, whereas particles that never interact are left with no mass at all. The problem is that before this july,no one has ever observed the Higgs boson in an experiment to confirm the theory. Finding this particle would give an insight into why particles have certain mass, and help to develop subsequent physics.

So when we raise a toast for people involved with discovery of 'Higgs boson',do remember our own Mr. Bose(Another Indian like Gandhi who deserved the Nobel for his work but but but....).

* a hypothetical, ubiquitous quantum field supposedly responsible for giving elementary particles their masses.

If you are Noodle lover ...Do read this !!

Many of us can't live without "Instant Noodles" especially when one is away from home, came late and do not want to cook, in a foreign land. Here is a piece of information to share so that we can remove the potential health hazard of consuming Instant Noodles like Maggi.

DO NOT IGNORE THIS ... Especially those fond of Maggi...

INCORRECT WAY OF COOKING NOODLES'
Normally, how we cook the instant noodles is to put the noodles into a pot with water, throw in the powder and let it cook for around 3 minutes and then it's ready to eat.

This is the WRONG method of cooking the instant noodles.

By doing this, when we actually boil the ingredients in the powder, normally with MSG, it will change the molecular structure of the MSG, causing it to be toxic.

The other thing that you may or may not realize is that, the noodles are coated with wax and it will take around 4 to 5 days for the body to excrete the wax after you have eaten the noodles.

CORRECT METHOD:

1. Boil the noodles in a pot of water.
2. Once the noodles are cooked, take out the noodles, and throw away the water which contains wax.
3. Boil another pot of water, add the cooked noodles into the hot boiling water and then turn off the stove.
4. Only at this stage when the stove is off, and while the water is very hot, add the flavouring powder into the water, to make noodle soup.
5. However, if you need dry noodles, remove the noodles and add the flavouring powder and toss it to get dry noodles.

Dietician's Note:
If you buy plain hakka noodles which you make, you initially need to boil in water and discard the water. This will soften the noodles but to prevent it from sticking we need to add a tbsp of oil and also the noodles are deep fried partially to make them crunchy and then dusted with flour to prevent them from sticking while boiling. Hence when you buy the noodles they are already made unhealthy and this is the type we use to make stir fry noodles and the regular Maggie too is made the same way, plus they add MSG / Ajinomoto and other chemical preservatives.

A large number of patients with ages ranging from 18-24 years are ending up with pancreatitis either as a swelling or infection of the pancreas due to regular consumption of instant noodles... If the frequency is more than 3 times a week, then it is very hazardous...

Please share this info and help others to lead a healthy life .....

In land of sunshine, Indians suffer Vitamin D deficiency ?

I am living in Norway and most of the time Indians here say that we Indians don't have any problem related to Vitamin D deficiency as we are from land of sunshine. Later I read something and realized they are partly correct. So here, I want to highlight the following which is not very well known.Indians in most part of the country suffer from Vitamin D deficiency.

Yes, in the land of plentiful sunshine (which makes this vitamin in the body), we suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. In short, it’s right to say that people of both north and south India suffer from this deficiency, in many cases even poor bone health.

One big reason: lack of calcium in the diet. Vitamin D helps in the absorption of calcium in the body. Indian doctors who’ve studied this say in

- rural India, due to exposure to sun, Vit-D levels are good in the body but calcium intake is poor

- urban India, due to better diet, calcium levels in the body are sufficient but Vitamin D level is poor. Blame it on long indoor hours (often under air conditioner) and inadequate exposure to sun.

D FOR DEFICIENCY
The causes:
 Indoor confinement during the day
 Darker skin pigmentation
 Use of sunscreen
 Poor intake of calcium
 Low maternal levels of vitamin D
 Vegetarian diet as vitamin D occurs only in foods of animal origin
 Living at higher altitude
Preventive measures:
 Direct exposure to sunlight, at least 30 minutes/day
 Good calcium intake (equivalent to 1 litre of milk)
 Artificial fortification of dairy products or infant foods
 Supplementation to lactating mothers
 If on supplements, check for optimum dosage

So recommended Calcium intake is :

  • Babies( between 0 and 6 months ) - at least 210 milligrams of calcium/day.
  • Kids( between 7 months and 1 year )- 270 mg/day
  • Children( between 1 and 3 year)- 500 mg/day
  • Children( between 4 and 8 year)- 800 mg/day
  • Children( between 9 and 13 year)-1300 mg/day
  • Adults( between 19 and 50 )- 1000 mg/day
More facts :
- Calcium source : Milk is actually only one of many sources of calcium—dark leafy green vegetables and some types of legumes are among the other sources.
- 100 gm milk has 120 mg of calcium.
- Skimmed cow's milk contains slightly more calcium than full-fat milk because calcium is found in the watery part, not the creamy part.
- If you are taking a supplement to get your daily calcium make sure you are also taking magnesium with it.Magnesium is the transport that brings the calcium to your cells. The ratio of magnesium to calcium should be 2:1. In other words if you are taking 1200mg of calcium you should also be taking 600mg of magnesium for a complete solution.
- While skimmed milk is a perfect health drink for adults and is excellent as part of a fatcontrolled diet, it should not be given to children under five because of its low calorie, fat and vitamin content.
- Soya milk has long been regarded as the healthy alternative for those who are intolerant to lactose - the sugar found in cow's milk.
- For adults,Reaching 1,200 milligrams per day would usually require drinking two to three glasses of milk per day—or taking calcium supplements—over and above an overall healthy diet.

Easter Egg tradition

Today is a Easter Sunday, and so many kids here in Norway( an other places where they celebrate Easter) kids wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. Before Easter Sunday kids decorate and paint empty eggs and on Saturday night Easter bunny comes and hides the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. On Sunday, Kids hunt for the eggs all around the house and the child who finds the most eggs wins a prize.

I tried to find more about the importance of painting/dyeing eggs and so....
- Among Christians, the Easter eggs represent new life("the seed of life"), and Christ bursting forth from the tomb and sometimes called - "Christ is risen!"
- After the death and resurrection of Jesus,Mary Magdalene was invited to a banquet given by Emperor Tiberius. When she met him, she held a plain egg in her hand and exclaimed "Christ is risen!" Caesar laughed, and said that Christ rising from the dead was as likely as the egg in her hand turning red while she held it. Before he finished speaking, the egg in her hand turned a bright red, and she continued proclaiming the Gospel to the entire imperial house.
- Another version says -After the Crucifixion, Mary Magdalene and the Virgin Mary put a basket full of eggs at the foot of the cross. There, the eggs were painted red by the blood of the Christ. Then, Mary Magdalene brought them to Tiberius Caesar (see above).

Nobel prize and Indians...

US -> 333 (far better than the second most intellectually advanced nation)
UK -> 128
India -> 7 (including 1 foreigner, Mother Teresa, and 4 of our Nobel winners worked abroad)
In a hundred years from now, how many Indians will get the Nobel? As of now, one Indian is mentioned as a probable winner: V Ramachandran, the neuroscientist (The Tell-Tale Brain, Phantoms of the Brain). Like other great Indian minds, he hones his skills in the US. So did S Chandrasekhar, the physicist, and Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, the two other recent science Nobel winners.
We lack infrastructural facilities in most of the areas like :

  • Education : Deteriorating condition in the primary school system in India, suggesting that future winners are not being created.
  • Sports :Jamaica and Trinidad, which now produces the fastest runners in the world, where at least four or five of them can run below 10 seconds for 100 metres, a feat that will take an Indian at least two decades to achieve. It is national shame of having over one billion people and so bad performance in Olympic.
  • Business : We have many billionaires, but hardly one global brand.

Coaching or Training ?

Here in Norway, kids called the guy who train them trainer but I was thinking they should call him 'Coach' as I had the impression that when I coaching is almost same as training until now. But I just wanted to confirm.SO here what I found on internet :

  • Coaching is a broader term and training is a specific term.
  • Coaching is super set which includes training.
  • Coaching is more related with motivation, vision and inspiration while training is related with specific skills.Coaches have to play several roles they have to be your friend, they have to be your mentor and they have to be trainer.
  • Coaches have to play several roles they have to be your friend, they have to be your mentor and they have to be trainer.
So now I know why they call the guy trainer not the coach because it just train them to start with and may become coach in later stage. :)

Efield and Subsea

We learn everyday about something because of different reasons and context. This is true in social and work life both. While I was applying for a job in Oil and Gas field I come across the terms 'efield' and 'subsea'  in the context of software and technology..

efield :
The oil industry is increasingly relying on digital technology and Internet or web-based concepts in every aspect, from back-office accounting and e-procurement to making decisions based on modeling software, to actually drilling, completing and monitoring wells. It’s called the e-field, the i-field, the smart field, and the digital oil field. And it is a very good thing.

The eField is an advanced ICT framework supporting all work processes and operation requirements an O&G organization have. Primary activities when developing an eField framework will be identifying the work processes and requirements both horizontally and vertically in the O&G field organization that are critical for the business strategy, economy and safety for humans and the environment.
The eField facilitate the O&G production organizations needs. Remote operation is anticipated to have a central role in future O&G production. CORD [2] is an initiative addressing the need for development of methods and evaluation of different concepts. The CORD program is currently working on identifying the work processes and requirements in an offshore platform control room. This is as a part of a larger program on how to safely move control functions, which today are controlled by the offshore control room, to a remote location. Important project participants are Statoil, BP, Shell, SINTEF and IFE.

Subsea :
Subsea is a general term frequently used to refer to equipment, technology, and methods employed in marine biology, undersea geology, offshore oil and gas developments, underwater mining, and offshore wind power industries.Oil and gas fields reside beneath many inland waters and offshore areas around the world, and in the oil and gas industry the term subsea relates to the exploration, drilling and development of oil and gas fields in underwater locations.Under water oil field facilities are generically referred to using a subsea prefix, such as subsea well, subsea field, subsea project, and subsea development.

Subsea engineering or seabed-to-surface engineering, is a specialty job that deals with underwater projects. A subsea engineer generally designs and installs underwater structures, including oil well rigging, wellheads, and pipelines. Typically, subsea engineers have working knowledge of underwater procedures, vehicles, and equipment.

Some terms :
- Subsea Control Systems
- Subsea Typical Equipment
-- Hydraulic Power Unit,
-- Electrical Power Unit,
-- Master Control Station,
-- Subsea Control Modules

News about some great people/God

I did not know following facts(or news) :

1. At the age of 52,Prophet Mohammad(Al-Amin) got married to 9 year old girl called Aisha. She was betrothed to him when she was 6, and the marriage was consummated when she was 9.Another thing was that at the age of 25,Mohammad got married to Khadijah-a 40'er year-old widow.
Initially it seems illogical but if we investigate more in detail then we can conclude that society was accepting these things as common rituals.
2. Jesus also had a child(Sarah) from a prostitute named Mary Magdalene.Mary was a devoted follower of Jesus and protestants honour her as a highly respected apostle.Mary Magdalene was the leader of a group of women disciples who are present at the cross. She became prominent during the last days, accompanying Jesus during his travels and following him to the end. She witnessed his Crucifixion and burial.
3. Even in our Hindu mythology,Radha Krishna is the original principle of loving relationships (conjugal Love). The sex principle exists in the Absolute in its pure form without any inebriety or impurity.

So in summary , we should understand the circumstances around the events happened in the past before concluding.

Anurag or Anoraq ?

I did not know that pronunciation of my name reminds norwegians another word  Anorq - which means a different type of winter jacket people use in this part of the world.
