Lucky Indians at Olympics 2012 .....Heart Winners

Like many other fellow Indians I expected India to win at least 3 more medals and at least one Gold. But this was our love for country and driven by past performances of some of our sportsman. We forgot that Olympics in not CWG. It is event where we compete with just the best of world.....but in the end , we realized that we got what we deserved after competing at world level.

We all know that somehow Indians-most of us do not treat sports as career. But this is changing and change is visible not only in terms of performances but also in terms of variety of sports disciplines , where Indians are shining( eg Amit kumar was, youngest Indian wrestler to qualify for Olympics)

Now we can boast of having double Olympic medalist - Sushil Kumar.

Though , many of us disappointed by medals India has won in Olympics but considering our preparation and mentality, we performed well. The expectation of people shows that now we believe in abilities of our own sportsman. Before this Olympics we fetched just 15 medals ( after 1948) but just in this Olympics we won 7 alone. To me this is big achievement. It is a big change that will provide the platform to more and more Indians to come forward and be part of sports new India.

One thing which is very remarkable this time is - support from professional bodies like OGQ and MCT apart from GOI. Of the 6 medalists, 4 were funded by Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ), a foundation supporting India’s top athletes; a fifth, bronze medal wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, received similar support from Mittal Champions Trust (MCT).Both OCQ and MCT design customized programs for their athletes, providing everything from the best training and coaching facilities in India and abroad to sports medicine and nutrition to travel expenses. This is something which GOI could not provide (considering their style of working and lack of interest ). So support from corporate sector is somthing which happened first time in Indian sports history - and result is visible.

Hopefully these 6 Indians will ignite rest of millions to bring more medals in 2016 and during these years we will have more world record beaters, world number 1 from India....

Starting of Golden phase in Indian Sports history

London is being decorated for 2012 Olympic and so like other countrymen we Indians are also wishing to do better then last year.Country of 1 Billion+ is wishing and praying to break 1-0-2 by a big margin.

Special Thanks and Gratitude to very professional initiatives of Mittal Champions Trust (MCT),Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) and GoSports Foundation and truly inspiring leadership of Viren Rasquinha,Manisha Malhotra,Geet Sethi,Prakash Padukone, Nandan Kamath..for Indian sports....London Olympic will begging of historical phase in Indian sports history.

*Mary Kom spents around 300 days a year in national camps, miles away from her home in Imphal where her two kids – Rengpa and Nainai.Just last year, Rengpa was down with fever. So when Mary Kom’s husband told her about it, she asked her husband on phone to take even the second child, Nainai, for a check up. She still can’t explain why(BUT WE KNOW IT) she insisted on that but it proved to be a life-saving call.Nainai was dignosed with a hole in his heart and was immediately operated upon.Mary was kept in the dark about the details till everything was fine.

*The Government of Rajasthan has announced cash reward of Rs 10 Lakhs(after she won gold in c'wealth games) to Krishna though the same government had not approved her application for assistance of Rs 1 lakh for training abroad. She funded expenses on her overseas training out of her pocket .Her son was just 8 months old and she left him for 6 months because of busy training schedules abroad.

What is Passive Resisters ?

Until now I was thinking that Gandhi would have been lover of Hockey(as India was doing great at international level during his period) or Cricket(game of elite class- at that time)but was surprised to know that he was an ardent football lover.

During his stay in South Africa, Gandhiji was closely associated with Football- Not as player but as Manager of Football club - “Passive Resisters”. This club owned 2 teams : Johannesburg Passive Resisters and Pretoria Passive Resisters.( named so after the political philosophy, inspired by the writings of Henry Thoreau and Leo Tolstoy).

True to his ideals, the Mahatma educated the young club-members on the positives of non-violence, and also encouraged his team to use lesser aggression in their games during his half-time lectures.

What fascinated Gandhiji in particular was the notion he had of football’s nobility. At that time, the idea of team play was much stronger than the idea of individual ‘star’ players, and this is something that greatly appealed to him. He believed the game had an enormous potential to promote team work. Certainly he appreciated the game’s usefulness in attracting large crowds, but it would be a mistake to think that football was only a communications platform for Gandhi. It was, I believe, much more. It was one of his great personal passions and one of the ways in which he was able to find spiritual peace.

Sadly, the club did not have a very long run, and in the absence of Gandhiji, it closed in 1936.

Playing football for 1 hr/day is better than meditation

Just read that Great hindu philosophies-Swami Vivekananda, was also football fan. He believed that playing football for one hour every day is better than meditation.I tried to find out more about his sports vs mediation philosophy but could not find it....

We are the world- World Champions

This is a historic moment for India as India has conquered everything at this moment in the cricketing world. We are :
- No. 1. team in Test cricket
- No. 1. team in One-day cricket
- 2010 Asia cup winners
- ICC 2011,World champions

Special thanks to Sachin,Yuvraj,Gambhir,Kohli,Raina,Zaheer,Sehwag and last but not least Mahi- the luckiest cricketing captain of the world. Apart from brilliant performances from all team members Dhoni's luck has made this possible.
Yesterday's win was not just an ordinary win, this was the testimony that current Indian batting line up is the best in the world and we do not only rely on charisma of Sachin and Sehwag to win world cup.We must not forget the role of Garry Christian- the current indian coach who has put together such a fantastic team and made them belief that they can beat any team if they play together and deliver their 100%.

Why me ?

Arthur Ashe- first African-American male to win a Grand Slam from USA was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: “Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied: “The world over - 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis, 500,000 learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, when I was holding a cup I never asked GOD ‘Why me?’.

And today in pain I should not be asking GOD ‘Why me?’

Dhooni should not do this again

I read today dhooni complaining/commenting about Sreesanth's temperament and saying "...the Irritate opposition, not your own team...". I read his full interview and so I can say that , I did not expect this to come from the captain of Indian cricket team and if anybody wants to know why I think so ..please read following points :
1. As a leader of the team he should never talk/discuss about the Sreesnath temperament in public.
2. He should not publicly criticize behaviour of his team member in front of media and if there is any concern then he must discuss it with Sreesanth only not with press/media.
3. A Leader must make sure that he talks positive and always ready for improvements/ betterments.
4. Leaders who criticize their team members in public lose respect from the whole team.
5. Dhoni has shown in the past as well that he does not like Sreesanth. When he had chance of selecting 15 players for WC-2011, he did not select the Sreesanth and instead selected Praveen kumar. He also showed his feelings about sreesnath in Durban as well - "I think it's important to keep him under control. It's good for him, for us, for the opponents, for the umpires, for the board and for the spectators,".
6. Leaders should always try to encourage team for positive things and try to avoid the negative.

PS : It does not mean that I am favouring Sreesnath for his short temper.I fully agree that he must improve his habit and must not be personal on any level.

Sourav Ganguly deserves a more respect from us...

I read the news that some media news rumours that Sourag Ganguly- flamboyant Indian cricketing legend has decided to quit all forms of cricket.Later it was cleared by himself that this is not the case. As a humble Bengali moshay style , he disappointedly mentioned :

"I had the runs. Players of my age, Gilchrist, Dravid and Laxman are still actively involved. I haven't been able to put the finger on the button why I was left out. Cricketing logic and past form suggests I should have been picked. There are several reasons I could have been dropped, but not for cricket."

"If I don't get to play IPL I will not be participating in any form of domestic cricket,"

Personal rapport is not useful in business : Considering the following :
- KKR : Nobody denies that KKR is best place for Sourav because he is the true BENGALI and very few IPL players have been as closely associated with the city they played for as him. In my opinion Kolkatta loves him more passionately than Mumbai loves Tendulkar(sorry whole India loves SACH ...I know).Everybody says that GANULAY is Bengal tiger........The Knight Riders(SRK) has never shown any miserliness when it comes to money-spending. So why SRK left Sourav(bother/pal)...was it because of his base price of just 400,000 dollars(1.82 crore Rs.). Question - Is 1.82 crore is big money for SRK ?
- Sahara, Pune Warriors - This is new franchise(and Sourav has had a long relationship with its owners ) and could have benefited from Sourav's talent but they left Sourav as well.
- In IPL-2010, Sourav played 14 matches and made 493 runs (avg. 37.92) and was the 5th best scorer in IPL-3. SO performance is not the issue here. Not only this he was one of top 10 scorers in IPL-1.He has more IPL man of the match awards than any other rejected player.

Looking at the above, Yes- Sourav you are absolutely correct....99.9% cricket frenzy indians believe the same and have full faith in your skills but you know what now cricket specially IPL is not just cricket but a business where people are not there for fun, enjoyment and sports but wish to earn money and that seems only reason behind your exclusion...NOTHING ELSE.

IPL can sustain omitting of
Sanath Jayasuriya, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle but Sourav Ganguly is certainly desired a place in IPL(INDIA). An Indian , would love to see you contributing to Indian cricket in any form be it player, captain, coach or office bearer of BCCI/IPL or CAB.

Kumble ...Man of values

Anil kumble's decision to concentrate on Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and not to take part in IPL 4 shows the honesty missing in most of the high profile people. This certainly shows the values he posses as compare to the other high profile sports people who holds multiple posts just for fame and money . For eg. Suresh Kalmadi who is president of
- Indian Olympic Association(IOA),
- Asian Athletics Association, and
- Athletics Federation of India simultaneously and also hold the post of Chairman of the Organizing Committee of recently concluded Commonwealth Games.Only God knows how he could manage the time to all these and worked as active congress party member also. He should have learned something from the people like Kumble, who is not so much fame hungry and Money minded and wants to work for betterment of sports. I wish Kumble best of luck in his future endeavours.

we have 2 world's number 1 performers....

Nobel prize and Indians...

US -> 333 (far better than the second most intellectually advanced nation)
UK -> 128
India -> 7 (including 1 foreigner, Mother Teresa, and 4 of our Nobel winners worked abroad)
In a hundred years from now, how many Indians will get the Nobel? As of now, one Indian is mentioned as a probable winner: V Ramachandran, the neuroscientist (The Tell-Tale Brain, Phantoms of the Brain). Like other great Indian minds, he hones his skills in the US. So did S Chandrasekhar, the physicist, and Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, the two other recent science Nobel winners.
We lack infrastructural facilities in most of the areas like :

  • Education : Deteriorating condition in the primary school system in India, suggesting that future winners are not being created.
  • Sports :Jamaica and Trinidad, which now produces the fastest runners in the world, where at least four or five of them can run below 10 seconds for 100 metres, a feat that will take an Indian at least two decades to achieve. It is national shame of having over one billion people and so bad performance in Olympic.
  • Business : We have many billionaires, but hardly one global brand.

Coaching or Training ?

Here in Norway, kids called the guy who train them trainer but I was thinking they should call him 'Coach' as I had the impression that when I coaching is almost same as training until now. But I just wanted to confirm.SO here what I found on internet :

  • Coaching is a broader term and training is a specific term.
  • Coaching is super set which includes training.
  • Coaching is more related with motivation, vision and inspiration while training is related with specific skills.Coaches have to play several roles they have to be your friend, they have to be your mentor and they have to be trainer.
  • Coaches have to play several roles they have to be your friend, they have to be your mentor and they have to be trainer.
So now I know why they call the guy trainer not the coach because it just train them to start with and may become coach in later stage. :)
