Why he sold his house to educate youth in rural India ?

Pranjal Dubey, a 40-year-old techie gave up his job at SAP SE (German MNC) and sold his house to teach the youth of his ancestral village. He dreamt of providing better job opportunities and improving the life of rural youth of Sandalpur village (Dewas district). To fulfill his dream, he literally gave up everything he had. Today, more than 100 students of his college are currently working with IT giants like SAP, Cognizant and many others."Leaving my job was not an easy decision and selling your only house in city was a difficult decision to take. But I feel all of us have to take some decisions which are at times difficult ," he said.Bootstrapping Sant Singaji Institute of Science and Management (SSISM) in Sandalpur for education of rural youth changed the life of this technocrat."It took almost two years for me and my family to understand what I was doing and what I wanted to do after leaving a life in Bengaluru that most guys often dreams of," he added. After starting their first batch in 2010, Pranjal took the whole team of 50 students to Bengaluru and many other cities across the country so that the students would dream of something big in their life. "It wasn't an easy thing for me to connect with the rural youth. My background, upbringing was completely different from what these kids had seen. To ignite their dreams I took them to multinationals like Infosys, Biocon, SAP and many other firms where they could see what all happens and see the bigger picture," added Pranjal. He further added even today, girl education is one of the biggest challenges that he is facing. "To convince parents of girls in villages and assure the security of their daughters is still a constant struggle for me," he said.Six years after his struggle, many students of this institute are placed at multinationals and are earning good."Today when I see these kids and their achievements, it makes me realize that I have done something for them. Each member of a family who is doing well is a role model for his family and that brings the difference," he said.Covering almost 200 villages across various districts and with strength of 1,000 students in the institute, this young techie feels that degree selling institutes are one of the biggest challenges for them."Villagers get attracted when they hear about degrees. But they often forget that in the current scenario being a degree holder is no big deal. Even today majority of youths in this area still lack in communication, presentation and many other aspects,"He further said that all this can be improved only if we provide good exposure and practical opportunities to students. With support of his mother Kalpana Dubey, 61 and wife Amita Dubey, 37 this young techie has been able to achieve his dreams. "This wasn't an easy journey for both of us and even for the family. The first decision was that we had to change our lifestyle from leading a comfortable life in Bengaluru to a life which was not really so easy," said Amita. She further said that it was only because of his happiness that family supported him. "I just told him that if you are happy then I am with you and come what may we will be together," she added.

Types of NRI accounts in India

1. Non-Resident (External) Rupee Accounts (NRE Accounts)
NRIs, PIOs, OCBs are eligible to open NRE Accounts. These are rupee denominated accounts. Accounts can be in the form of savings, current, recurring or fixed deposit accounts. Accounts can be opened by remittance of funds in free foreign exchange. Foreign exchange brought in legally, repatriable incomes
of the account holder, etc. can be credited to the account. Joint operation with other NRIs/PIOs is permitted. Power of attorney can be granted to residents for operation of accounts. The deposits can be used for all legitimate purposes. The balance in the account is freely reportable. Interest lying to the credit of NRE accounts is exempt from tax in the hands of the NRI. Funds held in NRE accounts may be freely transferred to FCNR accounts of the same account holder. Likewise, funds held in FCNR accounts may be transferred to NRE accounts of the same account holders.

2. Ordinary Non-Resident Rupee Accounts (NRO Accounts)
These are Rupee denominated non-reportable accounts and can be in the form of savings, current recurring or fixed deposits. These accounts can be opened jointly with residents in India. When an Indian National/PIO resident in India leaves for taking up employment, etc. outside the country, his bank account in India gets designated as NRO account. The deposits can be used to make all legitimate payments in rupees. Interest income, from NRO accounts is taxable. Interest income, net of taxes is reportable.

3. Non-resident (Non-reportable) Rupee Deposit Accounts (NRNR Accounts)
NRIs/PIOs/OCBs, other non-resident Individuals/entities are permitted to open these accounts. Accounts can be opened by transfer of freely convertible foreign currency funds from abroad, or from NRE/FCNR accounts. Deposits can be held jointly with a resident. Deposits can be for a period from 6 months to 3 years, and can be renewed further. Accounts may also be opened by transfer of funds from the existing NRE/FCNR accounts of the non-resident accounts holders.
The principal is non-reportable; interest can be repatriated. There is no income tax on the interest.

4. Non-Resident (Special) Rupee Accounts with banks in India
NRIs/PIOs presently have the facility of maintaining bank accounts and undertaking financial transactions in India subject to certain exchange control regulations. In order to simplify the procedures and to provide greater freedom to NRIs/PIOs for putting through financial transactions in India, NRIs and PIOs are now permitted to open bank accounts in India, which will be at par with rupee accounts, maintained by residents. They can now open Non-Resident (Special)
Rupee Accounts with banks in India which will have the same facilities and restrictions as are applicable to rupee accounts maintained in India by residents relating to repatriation of funds held in these accounts and/or income/interest earned on them. The scheme, which has become effective from April 15, 1999 provides that the procedure for opening such accounts is the same as that of domestic accounts of resident individuals. The existing facilities for NRIs/PIOs to maintain and operate Non-resident (Ordinary) i.e., NRO account, Non-Resident, i.e., FCNR account also continues. The repatriation facilities available under these accounts will continue as before.

5. Foreign Currency (Non –Resident) Accounts (Banks) (FCNR (B) Accounts)
NRIs/PIOs/OCBs are permitted to open such accounts in US Dollars, Sterling Pounds, Deutsche Marks,Japanese Yen and Euro. The account may be opened only in the form of term deposit for any of the three maturity periods viz; (a) one year and above but less than two years (ii) two years and above but leas than three years and (iii) three years only. Interest income is tax free in the hands of NRI until he maintains a non-resident status or a resident but not ordinarily resident status under the Indian tax laws. FCNR (B) accounts can also be utilised for local disbursements including payment for exports from India, repatriation of funds abroad and for making investments in India, as per foreign investment guidelines.

Sardarji Barah Baj Gaye

I proud that Sardars are part of Indian diaspora. They are doing great job in promoting the honesty, loyality , integrity and patriotism. No surprise that their social integration in Norway is seamles....... but but ...Still many times we joke about the Sardars even without knowing how great this community is ......so here is the myth buster....

During 17th Century, when Hindustan was ruled by Mughals, all the Hindu people were humiliated and were treated like animals. Mughals treated the Hindu women as there own property and were forcing all Hindus to accept Islam and even used to kill the people if they were refusing to accept. That time, our ninth Guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadarji came forward, in response to a request of some Kashmir Pandits to fight against all these cruel activities. Guruji told the Mughal emperor that if he could succeed in converting him to Islam, all the Hindus would accept the same. But, if he failed, he should stop all those activities. The Mughal emperor happily agreed to that but even after lots of torture to Guruji and his fellow members he failed to convert him to Islam and Guruji along with his other four fellow members, were tortured and sacrificed their lives in Chandni Chowk. Since the Mughals were unable to convert them to Islam they were assassinated. Thus Guruji sacrificed his life for the protection of Hindu religion. Can anybody lay down his life and that too for the protection of another religion? This is the reason he is still remembered as "Hind Ki Chaddar", shield of India.

For the sake of whom he had sacrificed his life, none of them came forward to lift his body, fearing that they would also be assassinated. Seeing this incident our 10th Guruji, Sri Guru Gobind Singhji (Son of Guru Teg Bahadarji) founder of khalsa made a resolution that he would convert his followers to such human beings who would not be able to hide themselves and could be easily located in thousands. At the start, the Sikhs were very few in numbers as they were fighting against the Mughal emperors. At that time, Nadir Shah raided Delhi in the year 1739 and looted Hindustan and was carrying lot of Hindustan treasures and nearly 2200 Hindu women along with him. The news spread like a fire and was heard by Sardar Jassa Singh who was the Commander of the Sikh army at that time. He decided to attack Nadir Shah's Kafila on the same midnight. He did so and rescued all the Hindu women and they were safely sent to their homes. It didn't happen only once but thereafter whenever any Abdaalis or Iranis had attacked and looted Hindustan and were trying to carry the treasures and Hindu women along with them for selling them in Abdal markets, the Sikh army although fewer in numbers but were brave hearted and attacked them at midnight, 12 O'clock and rescued women. After that time when there occurred a similar incidence, people started to contact the Sikh army for their help and Sikhs used to attack the raider's at Midnight, 12 O'clock. Nowadays, these "smart people" and some Sikh enemies who are afraid of Sikhs, have spread these words that at 12 O'clock, the Sikhs go out of their senses. This historic fact was the reason why some Sardar smiles over that person as he thinks that his Mother/Sister would be in trouble and wants sardar's help and is reminding him by saying off 'Sardarji Barah Baj Gaye'.

Dilemma for an Indian - Norway or US ?

I was talking to a friend of mine who is working in Big Research firm in India and got the opportunity to do Phd in Norway. He was excited and could not want more from God. But God is God :) and so last week he told me that he got another offer from US....................And this added a great bit of thought-grinding in him and his family.... A friend in need is friend indeed ...so he bombarded me with some typical questions..... and so happily found out following :

Earning and Taxes :
Income :
------------->Norway: $34,791/year/person
------------->USA   : $40,240/year/person

Taxes :
------------->Norway : $32,000/year/person
------------->USA    : $8,000/year/person

But where does this does money goes :) ....
Lets look at the social security expenditure of both the countries :
------------->Norway: 40%
------------->USA: 33%

And also look at the Education expenditure :
------------->Norway: 11%
------------->USA: 2%

Another aspect on which Indian(and others) want clarification is job related so here are some more info..

- In Norway, it is quite difficult for an employer to fire an employee after the initial 3 month trial period. It is also uncommon for employees to be fired for under performing. Compared with the US, this is quite a novel concept. In the States, employees can be fired with almost zero notice, although 2 weeks is common notice.
- And the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IS Work/life balance and now I am not comparing just US and Norway but Norway and rest of the world.
In US/India, people feel like life is work or work is life but in Norway, the attitude is - 'people
work to live'. So what is so different? ....typical regular work hours in Norway are very relaxing though
standard business hours are from 8AM to 4PM but you will find people coming earlier then 8 and leaving before 4PM. In fact in many offices they have officially declared that office-calling time is until 3 PM.
But it does not mean people don't give importance to work... yes they do in fact Norwegians are extremely efficient and task-oriented at work and when the working day ends, they are on to more important things such as family or sports or just relaxing at home(with some good book).Though not everybody is having family life but when they have family then family takes a huge priority even at work and that is why people after dropping kids to school/kindergarten, quickly reaches office early and then leave work early to pick their kids up from school or take them to sports practice.

Hope it helps Avnish a bit to decide ..... :)

Tenancy deposit protection is needed in India too

Most of the western countries provide legal requirement for a landlord to have Tenancy deposit protection agreement before he is renting any property..
This saves both landlord and tenant in case of disagreements and protect the property for landlord. How it works :
1. Before renting the property, Landlord and tenant both goes to bank and open a join rental account in bank which is jointly owned by landlord and tenant.
2. Rental agreement is documentary proof for this account. It says as well that When tenancy ends, deposit amount will be be returned to tenant's bank account automatically.
3. Tenant deposit the deposit money in this account from his/her bank.Tenant is also entitled for interest on the deposited money.
4. Every month tenant deposit rent in landlord's account (NOT in rental account).
5. When tenancy ends both parties inform the bank and deposit are then released directly into the tenant’s bank account.Simple !

As of Now Indian banks do not provide such 'rental accounts ; instead in India we have following :

- lease agreements with a minimum of 12 months
- lease and license agreements of up to 11 months  (Preferred)

Extra shadow in life to talk, share, care, enjoy, respect and have fun in the life..

Many times we read in Indian articles that patriarchal system is the main cause of increased divorce rate
in India and men alone for blamed for this.So I was thinking about it and so thought to list down the 'typical' reasons why a men wants to get out of marriage...

A modern educated man wants wife to :
1. Have a extra shadow in life to talk, share, care, enjoy, respect and have fun in the life. and/or
2. Have a extra earning partner so that life becomes more relax and luxurious. and/or
3. Take 'unquestioned' care of him and/or his parents. and/or
4. Take care of all the household chores(cooking,cleaning,planning...) that he doesn't wish to do by himself.

'typical' Indian       men :  gives priority to 2,3,4 in any order by 1 in in last.
( 'typical' European  men :  gives priority to 1 and rest 2,3,4 in any order.)

Based upon the above points, A modern men will go for divorce from his wife if she is unable to do point 2,3,4 or don't want to do them.
But what-if she does all 2,3,4 points well still husband wants divorce ? The reason is simple that either she is failed at point 1 or husband found another women who brings point.1 to husband's life....So in this case one thing is clear..Indian male who are highly educated or affluent or lives in non-Indian society tend to go for divorce for last reason because they acknowledge that earlier they selected the wife like a traditional Indian but now their modern instinct is prevailing and so wife 'obtained' with traditional Indian outlook does not suit them anymore.

One point which one can notice is that point 2,3,4 can be managed with time/money but point.1 is something that comes from upbringing and values that are developed over the years. So for a intelligent Indian women, it is extremely important to 'NOT TO IGNORE' the point.1.

Looking at my mom,grand-mom and grand-grand-mom ..... I analyzed that Indian women who are not very educated, beautiful and intelligent are managing their family without any hiccups are the one who knows how to support/encourage discussion, promote sharing , show caring nature , enhance enjoyment, give respect and bring fun in the family life in such a way that all the 3 points become less important.

Note : Incompatibility and infertility is not discussed.

Marriage - Personal Need or Social Desire ?

Sometimes we think about the our own life events and if something we can't understand then we ask questions from ourselves and expect that we get the answers for the same questions for which we don't have answers.... This happened with me when I read the following article on some website. I am copying it because I don't know how long they will keep in there :

If there is something Indian parents are more eager than getting their kids to clear IIT about, it is getting them married. The moment you enter your mid twenties, the whole world around you discovers a new found obsession to see you tying the knot. Why? Why is it that marriage has been made into the ultimate life goal? Here, we tell you why it’s perfectly fine if you never want to get married.

1. Marriage is just a label. If you want to be committed to someone, you don’t need a piece of paper telling you that. You can be as dedicated, committed and loving a partner as anyone else without getting married.
2. Contrary to what parents think, a marriage cannot guarantee a secure, lifelong relationship. What has to go wrong will go wrong. People who don’t want to stick around, won’t, either way.  And people who truly love you will stay by your side without any declaration. You don’t need to get married to be sure your partner is never going to leave you.
3. It’s strange how some people will spend the rest of their lives with people they don’t even love, suffering every day, just because their parents got them married. It’s funny how a life of compromise is what they see as a solution to a failed marriage. It’s much better to be in a relationship that you can break out of if things don’t go well than hanging on to the wrong person.
4. We weren’t born to get married. It’s not as necessary as the Indian society makes it to be. Life is still going to be as good, even if you’re unmarried. Marriage is just an institution and you can choose not believe in it, like religion. There’s nothing wrong with not conforming to the idea of marriage if you don’t believe in it. As simple as that.
5. Not all relationships pass the test of time. If break ups weren’t hard enough already, things get unmanageably rough if the two partners are married! Divorces are messy. Always. Whether or not the separation is out of mutual consent. When two people decide to end a long term relationship that they’ve invested their soul and heart into, getting into legal hassles is the last thing they want to be involved in. And don’t even get us started on the alimony laws in the country!
6. Your twenties are the time when you finally get out of your shell and explore the many possibilities of life. It is perfectly normal to not want to get tied down by marriage. There is nothing more fulfilling than living life on your own terms and you shouldn’t exchange that for anything in the world!
7. An average Indian lives for 70 years. He is still not an adult till the age of 18. And, gets married by the age of 25. All he gets is 7 years, 7 out of 70 years of his life, to find a woman he loves. Most people never find ‘the one’ because they get married before they can even try! There’s no acceptable age to fall in love. Why can’t we be dating till we actually find someone worth settling down with?
8. Some people want a happily ‘married’ life, some have different priorities. It is perfectly okay to never want to have a wife back home, a house with kids. Some of us just want to be independent all our lives, living by ourselves, doing what we love, doing what we want.
9. We grow up seeing everyone getting married around us and assume it is a stage every man has to go through. But how many people who get married do so because they really want to? It just doesn’t make sense to rush into marrying just because everyone else is.
10. In India, you don’t just marry your partner, you marry their whole family. And truth be told, families are the reason why a married couple is always fighting. If one pair of parents isn’t enough, you get another one that loves getting involved in everything you do. It’s fair to not want so much baggage in a relationship. A relationship is always happier till there aren’t more people involved other than the two partners. And sadly, that’s just not possible in marriages.
11. There’s a lot that is terribly wrong with Indian marriages. The society won’t let you live in peace till you get married. Giving in looks like the solution, but it only makes things worse. Getting married is only the beginning. Once you’re married, a dozen more expectations will be set on you – to have children, to buy a bigger house, an even bigger car. The society will lay down all the rules for you on what is the purpose of a marriage, how an Indian couple behaves and what a successful marriage should mean. It’s really not worth it.

My Kashmir Trip....Unforgettable experience

Agar zameen pe kahi jannat hai to yahi haiyahi hai, yahin hai.....emperor JAHANGIR used these words to describe his feelings about Kashmir. I myself had the same feelings when I visited Kashmir for 5 days with my father from 30th August to 3rd September.Before I go further let me share my itinerary :

Preparation :
- Booked air tickets via yatra.com( they don't accept foreign cards)

- Booked the houseboat Young Bombay via booking.com

Day1 : Boarded Indigo morning flight from Delhi and arrived at Sheikh-ul-Aalam airport,Srinagar. Well received by the  houseboat owner mr. Noor mohammad and directly driven to gate no. 9,Dal lake. There Mr. mohammad dropped the luggage and himself and asked us to continue for local sight seeing trip.He took our luggage to houseboat. We saw the
- Sankrasharya mandir ( Lord Shiva mandir , 300 mt above sea level )
- Pari Mahal ( laid out by Dara Shiko)
- Shalimar Gardens( laid out by Jehangir )
- Nishat Bagh
- Chashma Shah ( laid out by Shah Jehan)

and finished the day by evening tea at Zabarvan park(where we saw the hot air balloon) and live kashmiri music. Music was so enchanting that it captivated our heart for the whole life.
In evening taxi dropped us at the gate no. 9 , from there we took free shikara service to go to our houseboat -Young Bombay. At the houseboat we were formally welcomed by the house boat owner and his son and staff of houseboat. We tasted welcome drink- Kahwa(first time in life) and had general chit-chat about kashmir and houseboat life.
We ordered the Non-veg dinner and took some rest in the meantime in our room. Room was well maintained. Cleanness of bathroom took our attention as well.Bathroom had warm water facility, towels, toilet paper etc
After Dinner we stayed on outside terrace for a while to enjoy the night at dal lake. In the meantime we saw a barbecue shikara coming to our houseboat. Though we were full but just for taste, we ordered mutton and chicken kababs, It was delicious and unique experience in itself and stylist way to say - Good Night.
Day2 : In Morning , we had light breakfast-milk,omlate,toasts and poha( which was part of our houseboat package) and started for the Pahalgaon with our Taxi. On the way we saw Saffron fields and Avantipur Bat factory. I stopped at one point and enjoyed the white water rafting in Lidder river. Once w e reached the Pahalgam, we had to drop our taxi there and took another taxi for Betab valley and Aru Valley trip.

Day3 : After breakfast we again departed for full day excursion to the Sonmarg via Leh road Journey was beautiful as we enjoyed dense woodlands of firs and silver birches. Same as other parts our Taxi was allowed/(kindly forced) to drop at main Sonamarg and  from there onwards we had 3 options :
- Walk up to Thajiwass
- Hire another taxi for 2-3 local places
- Hire ponies
I could have taken ponies but as my dad was bit reluctant to try it so we hired the taxi again. Here I want to say that local taxi guys have a syndicate and always try to exploit the tourists.Government rates are so different then waht they charge for.We hired the taxi in 3000 INR for 2-3 places( places were located in area of 15-km).
Thajiwass Glacier is the biggest attraction ( for somebody who has not seen it earlier) but fact is thatreal glacier is too far to go by taxis or ponies( forget walking to it) so these guys just fool you around.

Day4 : Gulmarg trip
Day5 : Local sightseeing and shopping

A coincidence :)

There are 2 people A and B ....
A lives in Australia.........................................................B lives in Norway
A is passionate about India ............................................B is also.
A understands that political solution can revive India....B believes the same
A wants to go back to India to do something..................B wants the same.
A is looking for $$ security before he goes to India.......B is in same same.
A waits for Aus. citizenship............................................B might get Nor. one.
A is an retired IAS officer and now workinf in Aus.......B is soft. prof. in Norway.
A has a future plan here .................................................B has future plan here

I always thought there might be few people like me (B) but recently , I got the e-mail from Raghavendra Prasad, member of FTN who requested me to join FTN and referred to the blog of Sanjeev Sabhlook(A) where I read about his plan and compared it with mine. What a co-incidence ....... I noticed that he has same fear and insecurity and waiting for 'mera wala green' opportunity.

As humans, we look forward to our leaders (dead or alive) and think what they have done when they were in our situation.......I did the same and compared myself to our great leader of all time MK Gandhi and found that he could have been in the same state of mind .........Now questions are ...
  • Why he did not wait for best time to return to India ?
  • Why did not he waited for financial security before he came back to India ?
  • Why he did not think about his primary responsibility in his all life ?
  • Why he consider his 'second responsibility' as 'primary responsibility' ?
Answer to these make him GREAT and us 'Common' and so rightly he was father of nation and what we could just be a 'father'(If lucky :) ).

Fortunate or Unfortunate..

Like any other guy from U.P. , I had a lot of expectations from Akhilesh Yadav but slowly and slowly it is appearing to me that he is becoming just another U.P. CM. But I still believe in him....

Though I am not sure how much he helps his wife in guiding her to better direction but this example says that she is unfortunate that she could not get right advice from her own husband.

1. She is wife of in-office chief minister( who has majority(224/403) in state assembly).
2. Her father-in-law is M.P.,Founder and chief of a political party.
3. Her brother-in-law and uncle-in-law both are M.P.
4. She does not have any political status by virtue of her own(even lost last contested election by 85000).
5. She is mother of 3 young and cute kids and a young wife.

BUT She still thinks that Above is not enough and she still have more time and has less opportunity to contribute to serve the people of U.P. and so she got herself elected as M.P.

And We Indians who know this all but still elected her unopposed...I find it surprising that Anna Hazare who calls for 'right to recall'( to clean our election process ) could not muster the courage to go the to her constituency and make people realize that 'THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR DEMOCRACY' ( He was JUST busy with making sure that MS is proved to be corrupt)....How pathetic state of our politics.

For which point Aamir Khan should apologize ?

I am not diehard fan of Aamir khan but support him on case to case basis( as many other do as well).  Recently he started his TV debut show 'Satyamev Jayte' with a bang. As happened with him he does not do things just for the sake of doing it and which reminds me following line :
"Winners Don't do Different things they do things differently"

Many people compared his show with Opera Winfrey but I do not believe that this comparison has any meaning as both are differently presented and perceived.

First 3 episodes( female foeticide, child sex abuse and big fat Indian wedding) could not evoke sharp criticism against Aamir but fourth episode converted many of his admirers/fans to foes. Why ? Because here he criticized the malpractices of medical profession and raise the issue of corruption in medical profession.

21 medical associations of medical professions got united against him and demanded an apology from Aamir khan for throwing the bad light on medical profession. Like any other part of world medical profession is very hard-working and respectful profession. All the young kids who get selected into the MBBS,BDS,MS... are bright and intelligent brains. So this demand a close scrutiny of Aamir's show and so I watched it twice and noted down the following details :

Show start : Aamir  started his show with the words 'I am concerned about healthcare system'.
example-1 : Vektesh of Mumbai got bad treatment from a doctor.
example-2 :  A girl from audience described her ordeal with doctor.
example-3 : Major Pankaj rai story who lost her wife because of some doctor.
Aamir said - "Doston Galti kisi se bhi ho sakti hai . Doctor bhi ek insaan hai usse bhi ho sakti hai. hum galti ki baat nahi karenge hum niyat ki baat karenge"
example-4 : Pathology owner  Dr. Anil Picchar described how he has been treated by other doctors when he started his lab. He described commission that is widely paid to doctors for pathological tests.
example- 5: Dr. Amol pandit described his reason why he left India and working in Wales,UK (referral commission ).
example- 6 : Case of women of whole village in Andhra Pradesh who lost their uterus.
example- 7 : what happened in MCI in past few years.Boss of MCI Dr. K.K. Talwar could not deny what Aamir put forward. ( Aamir has the data for 50 years via RTi but he just got answer for past 4 years does he is at fault for answer he got for RTI ?)
After this he said - "Our health system is ill but we will find where is the root cause"..and show continues ...
example- 8: Dr. C.M. Gulati talked that health is least priority in our system and said that privation of medical collages is increasing and govt. operated medical collages are increasing and he justified why the doctor is charging more money. He said medical profession is UNVIABLE.
Dr. Gulati himself said that 30% commission is paid to doctor for prescribing specific medicines. He says medical area 'bribe Lena jurm nahi hai lena hai' - Aamir did not say anything.
After this Aamir moves to solution and says there are 2 basic challenges :
1- how to give good health services
2- how to make them affordable for all
example - 9 : Dr. Devi Shetty's  hospital Narayan Hridayala is lauded for affordable health care solution. He justifies how they made healthcare affordable.Aamir says - "YOU ARE INSPIRATION TO ALL."
example - 10 : Private medical vs generic medical purchase case is discussed. Dr. Samit Sharma is lauded for Generic medical stores. He said that medicines are being sold at very high prices.
Aamir says that Rajasthan govt has done good job by opening the generic medicine shops.
Aamir concluded that "THERE ARE MANY DOCTORS WHO ARE COMPROMISING WITH THE HEALTH OF THEIR PATIENTS BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT ALL THE DOCTORS ARE DOING SO. STILL THERE ARE PLENTY OF GOOD DOCTORS WHO ARE DOING THE YEOMEN SERVICE AND HE SALUTES THOSE DOCTORS"

Now my question is -  For which point Aamir should apologize ?
  • For the examples that were presented on the show ?
  • Should he aplogized for what ALL the DOCTORS (Dr. Anil Picchar,Dr. Amol pandit,Dr. C.M. Gulati,Dr. K.K. Talwar,Dr, Devi Shetty,Dr. Samit Sharma) said on the show ?
  • For the good words that he said about the doctors or the words he said about the pathetic condition of our health care system ?

Just 2 more points :
1. Which of the following fact(which SJ discussed) is distorted or biased :
---> Doctors NEVER take commission from pathology against the tests?
---> Doctors ALWAYS write generic medicine names on prescriptions ?
---> Private Medical collages are being opened more as compare to Govt. ones.
---> India spends less than 2% of its GDP on health sector.
---> Since 2008 NO doctors have been suspended by MCI for not following the MCI norms ?

2. If all doctors are agree(against what was said on SJ)then why they are not asking the organization like Ask the IMA(Indian Medical Association) and medscape to terminate the membership all those 7 doctors who were part of the SJ episode. If not then it means that MAJORITY of doctors agree with Aamir and SJ.

Satyamev Jayate is NOT Mahabharat

Listen to this one Satyamev Jayate

Very recently I participated in a event where all participants are requested to donate/contribute some money for development and charity projects in Asia and Africa. I was very humbled to see the compassion of the Norwegians(in general Europeans) for such purpose. They were very sincerely and quickly filled the forms that says that they are ready to give away x% of their salary every month for this great NGO.Hats off to such initiatives.
While coming from there , I was thinking that can this kind of charity solve the problems in developing countries alone. Being an Indian obviously my mind was forcing me to think in the context of India and my conscience said- NO NEVER... DONATING MONEY CAN NEVER SOLVE THE PROBLEMS IN INDIA.WE ARE NOT SHORT OF MONEY.

What we need in India is a junoon to do the things for people.Love for money is prevailing over love for country/society. By the grace of God in India we have ALL - natural resources, human resource and technical resource  and billion of rupees as well. We have enough food to feed our country(Nobody should die of hunger), We have enough medicines to give better health services and we have enough engineers to automate the whole process to block loop holes in system. But hunger for money/profit is number 1 and this is affecting the behavior and attitude of common Indians.

What is the use of more money if that money is going towards corruption or become black money(and making all of Indian even more debt ridden). For uplifting the society India need money for sure but money is not first thing first things are following:
1. People who think for society/India.
2. Better Policy which serves the majority not just minority.
3. Better implementation of government schemes/projects.
4. Harsh punishment for people who obstruct point 2 and 3.

Unfortunately Anna Hazareji's movement is working for option 4 while Aamir khan is working for option 2 but nobody is working for option 2 and 3.

India can not be better place if we just once a while launch a good TV show(eg. Satyamev Jayate) or Anna anti-corruption movement. People will appreciate all this and forget once TV started broadcasting IPL and other soap operas.
We need to understand that Satyamev Jayate is not Mahabharat, which we can watch and forget. It is not history that we should just 'KNOW' for the sake of knowledge. It is not the serial where we just say 'what?' and 'Ohh' and then continue with routined life. It is 'Agaaz' of  a movement which should not stop after some Sundays it should become the JUNOON of todays India.Awareness is good for only those who don't yet not aware of it for others it MUST BE 'JUNOON'. A JUNOON to make India a better place for all of us and our coming generation.Remember that Gandhi,Subhash,Ajad, Bhagat they never spread the awareness alone they spread the junoon. If those people can spread the junoon 70-80 years back without media then why can not we do it with media, technology and even more intelligent and learned India. Aamir can do wonders !!!

In my opinion Aamir should repeat the same episode with new contestants(only those who got effected after first episode on same theme) after six months and then take it from there. We should never stop this junoon movement until we covered the point 2 and 3 as said above.Because then only we will be on the track to make India 'Shining'.

Signing off with the following song... Satyamev Jayate
Satamev Jayate....Jai hind.

Lokapal Bill : Why BJP is equally responsible as Congress ?

After the scrapping of lokpal (at least for now ) in parliament now,It is very clear that BJP is weakening the lokpal bill too and blaiming the congress alone (just for the sake of coming election ). BJP also want to prove that UPA govt. have failed in every department so that they have one more election issue to talk about and doing their best for it but with a different face. How....???
Section 24 of lokpall Bill : Allows presiding officers of the 2 houses of Parliament to act on the basis of a Lokpal report even before a trial is completed.

BJP has asked the government to drop this section and now the practical meaning of this 'drop' means following :
If a MP is chargesheeted : He/She will face no action from the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha till the courts pass the order.

If a ordinary citizen is chargesheeted : He/She would have been already handed down a penalty of jail, demotion, salary loss etc by the Lokpal. This ordinary citizen could then go in and appeal to the High Courts, but that could take years.

So this drop means 'corrupt MPs are safe but corrupt citizens are not !!!'...why just becaue they are Member of august parliamanet ???
Asking govt. to drop section 24 BJP has shown it's real face and that is -  It is exactly same kind of party as congress (may be even worse).

A note from the History of Lokayukta in Karnatka...

I just wanted to understand the history of lokayukta to know what it did in last few years. So I did following....

Karnatka(first state to set up Lokayukta) :
Lokayukta duration : 1986 and 2011
Landmark                : July,2011; indicting then CM(BS Yeddyurappa) for corruption in illegal mining scandal. ( Nobody is asking what he is doing now ???? )
Note:
1. Leadership matters ? :  > 66% of the raid cases by the Lokayukta were initiated between 2006 and 2011.
2. What about the trial & conviction ? :  In Typical corruption case we have following stages :
Corruption(which falls in publicc/private domain),Complaint(when people complain about corruption) then comes investigation (both of these falls under the jurisdiction of lokpal) but last 2 stages trial and Conviction does not fall under the Lokpal , rather it falls under judicial system.

Facts and study said the Karnataka experience showed that sanction of prosecution and completion of investigation( in other words complaint and investigation) were not an issue at all as both were done in overwhelming majority of the cases handled by the state Lokayukta. Things failed when cases reached trial and conviction stage.
I doubt this has been debated in Parliament or within Team Anna ????

Another question : If setting up Lokayukta will be optional then all the states will do as they want. For example Gujrat did not have Lokayukta for past 12 years while Karnatka have.Mayawati will also say that it is stupid idea ....so how the general daily and pervasive corruption will be handled in thoses states ? Hope BJP who is so concerned about the corruption will make sure that Lokayukta setp become mandatory for states.

Does CBI alone can handle the corruption in whole India ?

Now a days , it looks as if Team Anna has 100% solution to ever growing corruption in India. Can Team Anna gives the guaranty that if following are included then , lok janpal bill solve the corruption from root in all parts of India. If that is so then they have not understood the real problem. Sometimes it looks that fighting against UPA govt. and winning over it is the only objective of Team Anna.
  • Is CBI handle the corruption on the grass root level ? I agree that if included under Lokpal, it should help in rooting out corruption in high places. But is that ALL. CBI is not the only agencies which needs reform there are other agencies/departments which needs reform so that we can curb the corruption. Common people is want rules and regulation related to local govt. agencies(police, courts, development authorities, Electricity,Public hospitals,PWD...) and private agencies. Unfortunately CBI does not have much role there. It comes into picture when we talk about the BIG issues.common people suffer from day-to-day corruption and read about the BIG corruption in News paper only.Team Anna should give more priority to common people and wait.....
  • What can't Team Anna wait for few days and see how the implementation goes and then protest to improve it further ?Is it not enough that after govt. has come forward so much in few months as compared to 40 years ?
  • Is it not enough that government is doing more than enough to accommodate as much as possible to respect the sentiments of people( i.e Team Anna now) ? Myway or hiway is not good all the time.
  • When I listen to Anna , it looks like he is just against the UPA(even ready to oppose in general election). Slowly and slowly he is becoming political :
    • He always talks about the Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi who have not spoken a harsh word against him.
    • He campaigned against Congress in Haryana elections.
    • He is threatening the Congress party about coming state elections.
Is this Gandhian style ? Actually he should never say that it is fault of UPA govt. He should try to make himself above the parties and elections to save his movement. It is fault of general Indian politics(specially politics of smaller parties like SP and RJD..) that country is not able to progress and parliament is not able to work properly or debate on serious issues such as corruption. We must also not forget the role of BJP in this whole context. BJP is biggest beneficiary in this lokpal movement. Now BJP has one point agenda to protest govt. on all front(this will help them in coming elections). So Jan lokpal bill is in danger because of negative politics of all parties not only UPA( so it is not UPA vs Anna actually it is Politics vs Anna).
  • There are many issues when it comes to implementation of jan lokpal bill. What will happen to efficacy of the proposed Lokpal if the trial keeps getting delayed? It cannot set a deadline for the judiciary and its processes. As many as 56,383 cases are pending in the Supreme Court and 4,217,903 cases in the high courts. At this moment, the most important need of the country is a far more efficient and faster judiciary. Fast-track courts to address corruption-related cases are a good option.
  • India is perhaps only country where people pay bribe to govt. servant for doing their duty while in most of the other parts of the world it is apposite. There has to very strict legislation under the lokpal bill to look into such cases and bind people to their duties not by fear of penalty but other perks and opportunity( we can not force our own people to do their job by fear there must be good reason to do the job as well )...I doubt that this has been considered in lokpal bill ?
I wish Anna should be satisfied with what he has achieved until now with his movement( by using media rightly and articulately ) and now takes things easily and accept the govt. proposal and then evaluate it's implementation in near future.

Why 51% FDI in multi-brand retail is risky in long term ?

Today UPA cabinet has approved the 51% FDI limit in $450 billion multi-brand retail sector.I think it is good for consumers in general because soon big multinational firms like Carrefour and wallmarts will heavily come down and open their outlets in every medium and big cities and starts offering retail items via big TV commercial and advertisements. These firms will build their warehouses and have deals with local formers for whole sale agreements.Consumers will get a lot of offers at attractive prices under one roof.

So question is if this the case then why some people are opposing UPA government...can't they understand this positive phenomenon ?
Actually UPA government is facing issue of price rise and inflation(Wholesale inflation in India has remained stubbornly high for more than a year and is now close to 10% despite RBI intervention) and so their argument (also backed by RBI) is that this move will help to dampen soaring inflation – an argument that several international retailers have also advanced to promote their case for entry. They have argued that a higher international presence in the retail sector could lower prices and improve the food chain.....This is valid in short term.......but but but ????

General election are due in 2014 (short term period) and so government wants to help/show the common people in this way ???
Later this Gandhi marked Congress will fight for rights of Swedeshi people....then things will be too late perhaps ....I don't know but why it seems to me that opening up FDI in multi-brand retail would spell the biggest disaster for Indian economy....and extinct our general stores( or kirana store )......which constitute more than 90% of retail market now.

What about the Govt.'s claim that it will generate the employment ? It is true in a sense :
- Is Mcdonald is generating employment which we all want in India ....they are just using the unemployed youth and giving them meagre salaries and earning huge profit with the help of low production cost.....How good is that for India ....

Regarding cheap products : Govt. should make sure that these big firms not spoil the Indian SME by buying cheap products from China and selling to the Indians.

The only positive sign that I see here is that this may lead organised retail system where formers gets satisfactory prices for their products and mediators do not eat away all the profit that should genunely be with formers( This is what is happening in Mandi system today). Even in this case government will have the greater role of monitoring that giants like wall-mart not become the new middlemen and take away the cream. After all they are not coming here for social welfare ....so risk is there a lot....as Amricans are new Britishers in modern world.

Why everyone is interested in Indian Retail market  ?
India is ranked 4th on US consulting group AT Kearney’s Global Retail Development Index for 2011. Emerging markets like India($1.6 trillion economy), China and Russia are the next big markets for retail growth.

Who is more corrupt UPA or NDA ?

I was reading the blog of Sri. LK Advani where he was talking about the corruption in UPA government and referring the Transparency International.
I digged into it later. As per Corruption Perceptions Index(CPI) which is published by Transparency International, India has following ranking over the years :

Govt. Year  Index
------------------
UPA   2010- 3.3
UPA   2009- 3.4
UPA   2008- 3.4
UPA   2007- 3.5
UPA   2006- 3.3
UPA   2005- 2.9
UPA   2004- 2.8
NDA  2003- 2.8
NDA  2002- 2.7

Note : 10 is best and which means zeo corruption.

So as per above data NDA government was more corrupt than UPA. So what Mr. Advani will say about it ? Actually there is a need to lift the politics from party level to national level.Corruption is not limited to regime of NDA or UPA , it is now pervasive in society.....and in my India needs following 2 not one alone :
- Very objectified policies which make sure that people do not get easy chance of indulging in corruption in social life.Every government department must have explicit policy(or clause in every policy) which make sure  corcorruption stays out of department.
- Strict anti-corruption law which will make sure that even after following above policies if people involve in corrupt practices then they should face harsh consequences and/or financial penalty.

Sri. Anna Hazare is talking about the second but is just strict 'policing' .....but not the measure to avoid the corruption from root......................

Winning a political battle in 55 days...Great IITian work

There is no doubt why he is most remarkable member of cabinet of Manmohan Singh when performance is concerned. This IITian is different and clearly demonstrated his skills by making sure that landmark land acquisition bill is passed in 55 days(from conceptualization to finally becoming Law). He strategically and systematically made sure that bill is accepted by each section of the parliament ( including opposition). Though he himself accepted that Rahul Gandhi personally took interest in expediting the process, But it does not make his role less significable at all.

1. 21st July : Land acquisition draft bill was submitted in parliamanet. The Draft was his wish list but he was fully ready to dilute his stand to accomodate concern of other concerned.
2. between 21 july and 7 sep : Cabinet colleagues were discussed and accomodated, Mamta Banarjee was persuaded and convinced. Industry leaders were informed and their feedback received and State government contacted and their views accomodated.
3. 7 Sep : Land acquisition bill introduced in Parliament; it  reflected the collective wisdom of the cabinet where different points of view are voiced and a consensus view is reached.

So from start to win in 55 days and in Indian politics....It requires a standing ovation for Mr. Jairam Ramesh....And a obvious hypothetical question that is popping up in my mind ....Why can't he handle the anti corruption bill ?

Can IT help in handling corruption ?

Anna’s JLP bill assumes that what’s broken can’t be fixed. But actually it is not the case ,we have a lot of good laws and regulations ( and if not then why he is not asking for specific strict amendment to law) but implementation is somehow bogged down at many level of system.

Being an IT professional and believing in the fact that India is IT capital of the world, I always think and try to find out - How to use IT strategically to tackle( I am not using the word solve ) the problem of corruption in India. So here are the points that I come across :

Electronic Identity : Government has already taken initiative by creating Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and soon under the visionary leadership Nandan Nilekani, we will see its impact in reducing corruption. Though there will be hiccups but remember this is herculean task , so one should not lose hope towards best possible finish. Once each Indian is covered ( even if 70% coverage we should treat it 100%) we will identify the real beneficiary and slowly and slowly each and every transaction done by AADHAR holder will be traceable which will certainly control the corruption.

Online Legal information system : Anna’s JLP grants powers to initiate Prosecution against anyone found guilty.  This implies some kind of a parallel judiciary and law enforcement mechanism. Do we need one more court in country of 1.2 Billion people? Why not make reforms to our current courts system and law enforcement enterprises and expedite the pending 30 million cases first to reduce the burden from judiciary. Justice delayed is justice denied. Why can’t we have a electronic system of managing the legal cases , so that people get justice in a specific time-frame and long pending cases get priority and a transparent system of appraisal exists for judges and advocates.

Integration and Networking: We have experienced that ATM have revolutionized core banking and reduced the burden of banks and so banks are engaged in more productive banking work. Similar reform is much widely appreciated in railways where Centre for Railway Information Systems (or CRIS) is doing fantastic job. So networking and integration is the key to reduce corruption as manual intervention will be controlled, limited and transparent. For example:
-          -   Integration and networking of police stations
-         - Integration and networking of different municipal agencies like Nagarpalika and development authorities (DA).
-          -  Integration and hospitals and Nursing homes and if possible then even medical stores.
-          - Integration of traffic police and transport department

Online Tendering and Evaluation : Since tendering in government departments plays a very important roles in boosting corruption, so computerizing this tendering process will certainly help in transparency. Government can create a specific department for online tendering processes and ask enforce all the government agencies to publish tenders via this interface. Another option is to outsource this online process to some IT company like TCS or Infosys.
